Golden Grooming: Items for Cleaning Up Your Dog and Home

Golden retrievers require more grooming than other dogs I've had in my life. Their beautiful golden hair continues to grow longer in areas - and can make their paws look like the Grinch! The never ending shedding and fluff masses of fur found throughout the house seem incessant. In between visits to the groomer and for those muddy trail days, here are tools that we use to clean up.
Grooming Tools
A slicker brush with an easy release, dual sided shedding blade, a set of grooming scissors including one with a curved tip to cut around paws and ears, and a trimmer to get into the small places including between their paw pads.
Dog Washing
My most favorite tool are these dog grooming gloves. While you can use them dry for pet hair removal, I use these to wash my golden. Most recently after a roll in goose poop, these gloves were extremely useful with earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe Shampoo to scrub out the stinky sticky substance and then apply earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe Conditioner for a squeaky clean pup!
Dog Drying
With their undercoats, golden retrievers can take a long time to dry and often their fur dries in unruly waves or masses. Using a dog dryer can speed up the process and give your dog that "just been to the groomer" look.
For Your Home
Your dog can be your first best friend, and if you've got a golden retriever, your vacuum cleaner might come in as a close second. From my Hoover desig
ned for pets to the Roomba for fine details, these keep your home as fur free as possible. It is also recommended to keep a supply of lint rollers, including one in the car and one at the office!
We've linked to our current go-to picks for each of these and will update this post with any new finds!
