Welcome to High Sierra Home & Trail

Welcome, friend. I'm so glad you found your way here.

I moved to northern Nevada in the '90s and fell in love. Not with a person, although I'll admit a person is what brought me here in the first place. I fell for the place itself: the mountains, the impossible blue of Lake Tahoe, and a way of life that pulls you outdoors in every season.

Northern Nevada has been home ever since. I earned my master's degree at UNR, raised two wonderful children who are now young adults making their own way, and these days I share my older home with my darling golden retriever, Lucy. Our days are filled with the things we love most: working at a fabulous non-profit, hiking and trail running, lingering in local coffee shops, and time with friends and family.

Some of the most important people in my life I met on the run. My running group is a circle of strong, amazing women who have carried each other through life's ups and downs: raising kids, juggling it all, and eventually learning what it means to be empty nesters. Together we've run short races, trail races, relays, and marathons, and we show up whether it's the bitter cold of winter or the blazing heat of summer. When I'm not running, you'll find me working (patiently!) on my golf and tennis game, or paddleboarding on Lake Tahoe, my happy place.

Then there's the house. Built in 1993, she asks for constant attention: maintenance, upkeep, and the occasional surprise repair. I've tackled much of it myself, learning as I go. We're tucked just high enough up the hill that when the snow really comes, my Jeep Grand Cherokee is the only thing getting me home and into the garage.

Along the way, I've bought a lot of things. Things that make mountain life a little easier and cleaner, gear that keeps me running year-round, products that help me organize and refresh an aging home, and, of course, more than a few treats and toys to spoil my sweet Lucy. Some were wonderful finds. Some were not.

That's what High Sierra Home & Trail is all about. I'll share what I've learned and what I've bought, the good and the not-so-good, so you can spend less time guessing and more time living. Here's what you can look forward to:

  • Home: DIY repairs, maintenance, organization, and updates for an older home

  • Trail: running and hiking gear for every season, from icy winter miles to summer heat

  • Mountain Living: practical finds that make high-Sierra life simpler, cleaner, and snow-ready, local places to visit, events and finds, and early morning muses about life

  • Lucy's Corner: favorite things for golden retrievers and the people who spoil them

Whether you're a fellow runner, a weekend DIYer, a dog lover, or simply someone who loves these mountains as much as I do, I hope you'll feel at home here.

Thank you so much for visiting. Lucy and I hope to see you again soon!
